Simply collect lids in an aluminium can, squeeze it shut when full, and place in your home recycling bin.
If you ever use larger sheets of aluminium, alternatively these can be scrunched up into a ball, which a larger pierce of foil around the outside to contain them.
The general rule of thumb is about the size of a golf ball so that the machines can pick them up.
Why do Bluecup capsules utilise recyclable lids?
Since launching in 2014, Crema Joe tested, trialled and experimented with a significant number of reusable capsule material options and combinations. From this research, the criteria included that the product must:
• Be as sustainable as possible (either closing-the-loop or fully recyclable)
• Be production compliant and
• Meet all food safety standards and regulations
During our explorations and research, we found that the simple act of piercing the capsule lid creates a pressure build-up, which results in a richer brew and crema.
Cream Joe does stock capsules with stainless steel reusable lids, we use fully recyclable, BRC certified and ISO 9001 certified Aluminium lids for our Bluecup capsules.
When our customers switch to reusable - we hope they'll keep reusing for the lifetime of their pod machine! By refilling the capsule, and composting the grounds, our customers are drastically reducing their kitchen waste, whilst still enjoying the lovely espresso coffee that Bluecup is famous for.
When purchasing from a local coffee shop / roaster, ask for coffee ground tomedium-fine.
Alternatively, you can grab one of our delicious packs ofBespoke Blend - Stovetop Pod Grind, ground specifically for use with Bleucup reusable capsules and pods which are compatible with Nespresso machines made after October 2010, as well as L'or and Kmart Nespresso compatible machines.
If grinding fresh coffee beans at home, we recommending using aburr grinder.
Grind Size And Coffee Pods blog post shared an in depth look at how your grind method can affect your final brew.
No, they will not.
Reusable capsules are slightly shorter than single-use ones to prevent damage to the blade plate. They fit perfectly and won't harm the machine when used correctly.
WayCap capsules use a reusable lid held by the machine without piercing. Bluecup and Sealpod capsules have pierce-able lids, just like regular disposable pods, and are recyclable or compostable.

Customer Reviews
Overall rating: 4.9 / 5 from 53 reviews.
The caps themselves work well - just have to use a finer grind than i am currently.
There are however 2 issues -
1st, the image shows the "loader" I created from a soft drink bottle, as the handle which is supposed to hold the caps to spoon out the coffee from a container doesn't work, the cap sits too high in the ring & falls out, I find it's impossible to dig out the coffee powder.
2nd, it is difficult to remove the used foil cover from the cap , one needs to use fingernails - not easy. Using any sharp implement risks damage to the fine seal ring on the underside of the rim.

Thanks for supporting our small business and providing a great review!
This video from Bluecup will demonstrate how the cup will “click” into place on the spoon holder:
https://youtu.be/hHQ7bVba9WE?si=8LJtzDGZq1eS9q5Z
Removing the lids is easy, make sure you remove them after you have brewed the coffee, leaving it for several days makes it more difficult to remove the lid.
Very happy with purchase - so glad we discovered this.
This reusable and recyclable system is excellent and is so easy to use with arthritic hands. Aluminum caps can be recycled, cleaning the cups is a breeze. Recommended highly.
Very happy the Bluecup Starter Packs cup creator and lids, they work really well with the Sealpods. I decided to give the lids a go after reading one review in particular to avoid having to throw away sticker backing. I now collect the Bluecup aluminium lids into a tin, which will go in recycling. I also checked with my local council that clean aluminium foil can be placed into the yellow-lidded recycling bin.
I haven't use the Bluecup spoon holder, but I'm sure it works with the refillable capsules the starter pack came with. It would be a nice option to order the Bluecup creator on its own as well.
I absolutely love it! It’s so convenient and easy to use. I love that I can choose and use my own favourite coffee grounds instead of being limited to coffee capsules. The coffee tastes great, and I can enjoy the coffee I really like.
I use it with my Nespresso Gran Lattissima, and it works really well. It’s a great option for anyone who wants more flexibility and wants to reduce the use of disposable capsules. Highly recommended! ☕️❤️
I previously used the other reusable Seal Pods which were great but I found them a bit fiddly. These blue cup pods are so easy to fill and produce a great coffee with my local Skybury dark grind. It also feels great to be able to put the used grounds in the compost and then rinse, dry and refill for the next cup. Less landfill! Love my reusables! Thanks 🙂
From the start of going to our own pods using crema joe instead of buying the ready to use pods from supermarkets we have never looked back.
We are very happy with your product and as we drink at least 8 coffees a day (2 people) we find the that except for the initial set up costs we can recommend , and do, to all coffee drinkers.
Thank you.

Thanks for the review! You can pick up an additional pods (6).

Love this product
Really enjoy this product, a great alternative to consuming and throwing out pods, also allows us to use our preferred coffee from our local cafe.
Recommend highly.

Great stuff
A little time consuming, but my husband got the hang of it 😁
Seriously, they're great pods, easy to use and clean. Once we find the right blend for us, we will be ordering more pods to have them ready to go.

Thanks so much for taking the time to share your experience, Kelli! Glad your husband is enjoying them too 😁 - CJ Team
Love these pods!
These reusable pods are great! The pods are easy to use. You can choose your own coffee rather than be limited to what is in store. Another plus is that the pods are easy to clean. I highly recommend the bluecup.

Best reusable pod
I have tried many reusable pods but this is by far the best. Easy to purchase and delivery was surprisingly quick considering the current environment.
I am about to order a six pack of pods and 800 lids - that's how confident I am about this product. Thanks Crema Joe

Thanks Ken - so happy to hear you are enjoying using Bluecup!
Greatest thing since sliced bread
So easy to use. Great that we can use our favourite blend of coffee. Took a few tries to know just how much coffee to put into each pod but now we have it down to a fine art and are enjoying hassle free coffee every day.

So easy!!
I was given this as a gift for my bday, it is so super easy to use, actually easier than I thought it would be. And love knowing there is a decrease landfill. Would def recommend
The best reusable capsule I've tried!
Aside from the sealing device being the most satisfying thing EVER to use, these capsules were really really great. So many on the market clog the machine or tamper with the flow of coffee but I've had no issues so far. You definitely need to use multiple to get the right strength (I use 3 or even 4), but I tend to bulk-fill about 8 capsules at a time so I'm set for a few coffees ahead of time. I found Crema Joe's website really helpful in understanding how best to use the capsules and grinds too. Would definitely recommend to all coffee addicts who are concerned about their environmental impact!
Love this brilliant device!
I've been a pod user for about 6 years and hate to think of how much waste I've created. This device is so easy and means I can have some of my favourite beans in pod form! I've converted so many of my pals to have this instead. Genius and uncomplicated
So simple to use...now to perfect my cup
Chose this item after reading all the other reviews on this site, as I was tossing up about fully sustainable vs an amazing cup of coffee. After hearing this delivered the amazing taste, I bought and now I've been testing it out for a few weeks. First up - its EXTREMELY easy to make up a pod. Removing the lid after use and cleaning out is also very easy, and I now have a little container for my lids to dispose of in recycling. The only downside so far, which is why I didn't give it the 5 star review, is that I haven't yet perfected my extraction. There seems to be a VERY fine line between packed too tightly and too loosely. Granted, I was given the ground coffee in a hamper pack and it may not be the exact grind that is recommended by Creme Joe and the maker, but I either keep getting a watery pour (which is a loose pack), or I'm over-packed (so extraction is drippy). Happy to keep fiddling, and once my gifted pack of beans is gone, will definitely get a pack of beans ground to the recommended consistency and keep trying. I know I will get there, but it's been a slightly more fiddly process than I thought.
Store owner replied:
Thanks so much for this excellent constructive feedback, Kathy!
Switching from single-use capsules to reusables and perfecting your extraction can take a little experimentation, which it certainly sounds like you've been doing. When filling your own pods, extraction results can vary, dependant on which coffee you use, and how you use it. For Bluecup, we recommend a strong dark roast, or Italian-style roast ground to Stovetop/Moka Pot for a stronger tasting brew.
Keep up the great work, Kathy! All the best as you refine your brew and find the grind and tamp that suits you and your machine best! Hope you find your sweet spot for a perfect morning cuppa :)
Great!
I thought I’d try this system so I could get my husband on board with transitioning over to reusable pods. This makes it so easy even he is making our morning coffee now! Thanks Crema Joe and blue cap.
Love Crema Joe!
We received 12 mths coffee and a starter pack with the metal reusable capsules as a Xmas present. We liked the taste so much we bought the blue cup starter pack, extra cups, foiled lids and have plenty filled now. We like the cup creator and foil lids much better. We were using adhesive foil lids with our first batch but I think it’s less fiddly with the cup creator.
Store owner replied:
Hi Julie, so glad to hear you're enjoying your Bluecup capsules! We're a big fan on the Cup Creator in our office too :) Thank you so much for your support - Kayla
Awesome!
Thanks to Crema Joe and blue cap I’m on an epic journey to coffee perfection at home. Now equipped with reusable pods, a burr grinder and some sweet fresh grinds I can create cafe style coffee (almost!), at home. I have a WayCap, seal pod and the blue cap and find the blue cap is the easiest to fill and produces the best coffee. I feel like Captain Planet with my waste reduction!
Bluecup Pods
Reuseable pods are the only reason I have recently bought a Nespresso machine. (Was using Aeropress before.) There's definitely an art to getting the right grind and right tamping pressure for a smooth flow of coffee. Still working on it!

Simple product
It is easy to use, do at times have a little trouble turning the top of cup creator, but otherwise all good.
Easy, delicious, simple
I was a bit daunted at first on filling our own pods but it's surprisingly easy! It's even quite calming and I look forward to doing it.
I love the amount of money I'm saving and actually prefer to make a coffee at home than going out for one.
The amount of waste we are producing is so much less also!
Easy to make
The spoon holder and cup creator make it easy to fill your pods with your favourite ground coffee. I’m saving heaps and reducing waste, win win!
THE BEST
A work colleague recommended this product as I like to try different coffee flavors but only have a nespresso machine. I absolutely love it, my husband and I can buy coffee beans from our favourite cafes and make our own pods which only takes seconds. This was the best purchase, I'll be buying more pods soon so I can make them in advance. I also feel better for reusing the coffee pods and doing a small part for the environment.
Fantastic
I purchased the Bluecup Two Pack just to try and to see if I'd liked them. I couldn't be happier. They're brilliant.
Super easy to make, cost effective and so much better for the environment.
Will definitely be placing another order in the near future and will include the Crema Joe coffee next time to give that a try also.
Awesome product and awesome service.

WHERE HAS THIS BEEN ALL MY LIFE!
I ordered the Bluecup system this week and received it within two days (rural Vic). I absolutely LOVE it!!! I’ve been playing around with it for a while this morning, trying to achieve the perfect grind and shot. Then I timed myself making a supply of pods. With very little experience, I made 10 pods in approximately 3 1/2 minutes. They run through my Nespresso machine easily and deliver a consistent and enjoyable coffee every time. I like a strong coffee and after some practice with grind and tamp, I’m getting there. It will also be a matter of finding the perfect beans. At this price too, this will make an awesome present for family / friends. I’ve been using the SealPod reusable pods previously, which are also awesome, but far more expensive and fiddly to fill. This system is magic! Thanks Crema Joe. Great product and awesome service!
So easy, my 8yo makes my pods for me
I thought I’d give these a try to reduce my waste output and my pod expenditure. My parcel was delivered within a day of ordering. Initially fiddly, I found that using a 1/4 tsp measurement to fill the pod works best, and made sure to do this over the sink so that any spillage was easily wiped up. My 8yo daughter saw me doing it and wanted to give it a try. Well, she has a significantly steadier hand than I and after one attempt was filling them like a pro. She announced that she would do this for me always. Now to train her to actually make my coffees for me... The coffees produced by these are comparable to the brand name ones, and I’m very pleased with my purchase. Thanks for a great product.
I love them
I wasn’t too sure on how good these would be, i was a bit worried that the crema just wouldn’t be the same. After reading some reviews I decided to give them a try, and I’m glad I did! The crema is excellent and the coffee tastes great. Now if only I could stop being so lazy and prep them in advance it’d be even better!
Bluecup Pods
I researched the Bluecup pods before purchasing, and the reviews were a bit mixed. We have a Nespresso pod machine, but my husband had not found a Nespresso brand coffee pod that he really enjoyed the flavour of. We have also tried generic brand pods, but they did not work well in the machine. So I purchased him a Bluecup pack, thinking this might allow him to source his own coffee, as well as being more environmentally friendly. I was a bit doubtful that it would be the answer - but it has been! The pods are quick and easy to make up, they work perfectly in our machine, and my husband can now use the coffee grind of his choice. Very happy with them! And as an aside, I also purchased Crema Joe's House Blend, which he has really enjoyed the flavour of!

Excellent coffee
I love these pods easy to refill and the fact I can put whatever coffee I like is the best. It means I can buy locally roasted and or ethically sourced coffee and it even saves me money based on Nespresso pods. It is even fun using the pod maker. This site has excellent service as well I had the pods in hand a few days after ordering!
I love them!
I've just received my Blue Cup pods, and made my first cup of coffee with them, and wow! I'd previously purchased a cheaper option thinking that I'll try that first before committing to a more pricey version, but what a waste the cheapo ones were. I've already got 4 pods now sealed up ready to use for the next 2 days, and it only took moments to do! Blue Cup makes a fantastic cup of coffee, real, proper coffee. Excellent service from Crema Joe as well, they were shipped within 48 hours and arrived not long after.
THEY WORK VERY WELL, AND ENABLE US TO ENJOY OUR COFFEE WITH NO IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT
This is the second time we have made a purchase of blue up capsules....we have found the capsules work very well...we are travellers..( caravan and rooftop tent on top of 4wd)...we enjoy a good coffee .....we have a set for home and when we travel...the pod machine we have is small and able to be easily packed when travelling...we are also very aware of the effect on the environment of discarded pods....blue cup enables us to be able to choose our own coffee beans and our enjoyment of coffee has no impact on the enviroment
Surprisingly good
Thought I'd give them a shot instead of piling up up the nespresso pods. System is well thought out, I can fill the pods in under a minute with coffee of my choice.
Still creates a good creama, not quite up the single used, maybe around 90% but I'm very happy with that given the reuse of the pods and the choice of coffee. Will be adding to my current 4 to have more ready to go.
Really love them
Using them daily. The only 2 points found frustrating is the capsules get really hot after use, and you can’t take the foil out to clean straight away. The other is that the capsule doesn’t fit very well in the Spoon Holder, and sometimes falls out, which makes filling them up a bit frustrating.
But overall we’re really happy with them
Single-use plastic is harmful to the environment. Reuse generates far less waste, which is why Bluecup capsules were designed to be refilled and reused.
Saves money
Suitable to any budget, brewing coffee with Bluecup is much more friendly on the hip pocket than conventional pre-filled pods.
High Quality Taste
