Simply collect lids in an aluminium can, squeeze it shut when full, and place in your home recycling bin.
If you ever use larger sheets of aluminium, alternatively these can be scrunched up into a ball, which a larger pierce of foil around the outside to contain them.
The general rule of thumb is about the size of a golf ball so that the machines can pick them up.
Why do Bluecup capsules utilise recyclable lids?
Since launching in 2014, Crema Joe tested, trialled and experimented with a significant number of reusable capsule material options and combinations.
From this research, the criteria included that the product must:
• Be as sustainable as possible (either closing-the-loop or fully recyclable)
• Be production compliant and
• Meet all food safety standards and regulations
During our explorations and research, we found that the simple act of piercing the capsule lid creates a pressure build-up, which results in a richer brew and crema.
Cream Joe does stock capsules with stainless steel reusable lids, we use fully recyclable, BRC certified and ISO 9001 certified Aluminium lids for our Bluecup capsules.
When our customers switch to reusable - we hope they'll keep reusing for the lifetime of their pod machine! By refilling the capsule, and composting the grounds, our customers are drastically reducing their kitchen waste, whilst still enjoying the lovely espresso coffee that Bluecup is famous for.
Bluecup coffee pods are compatible with Nespresso machines made after October 2010, as well as L'or and Kmart Nespresso compatible machines.
These are the machines that are compatible with BlueCup, a quick way to check is, compatible Nespresso Original machines will have a black plastic sleeve (not aluminum).

When purchasing from a local coffee shop / roaster, ask for coffee ground to medium-fine.
Alternatively, you can grab one of our delicious packs of Bespoke Blend Stovetop Pod Grind, ground specifically for use with SealPod reusable capsules and pods which are compatible with Nespresso Original Line machines
If grinding fresh coffee beans at home, we recommending using a burr grinder.

Reusable capsules are slightly shorter than single-use ones to prevent damage to the blade plate. They fit perfectly and won't harm the machine when used correctly.
WayCap capsules use a reusable lid held by the machine without piercing. Bluecup and Sealpod capsules have pierce-able lids, just like regular disposable pods, and are recyclable or compostable.
Dispatches occur daily. All orders completed before 11am (NZST) will be processed and shipped the same dispatch day.

Fill the Bluecup
Fill the empty Bluecup capsule with ground coffee (medium-fine grind), place it in the capsule creator, and secure the aluminum lid.

Attach the lid
Place the transparent part of the capsule creator on the black holder, push down, then twist right and left.

Remove the covered capsule and place it into the coffee machine
